If you're in London any time from now till June, chances are you'll be able to meet some brightly painted and decorated life-size baby elephants parading London city!! Its like a manifesta of elephants going on! They are here to raise awareness of the crisis faced by the endangered Asian elephants. It will also help raise funds for WWF.
Each of the 250 elephants started life as a blank sculpture. Artists and celebrities were then invited to design and decorate them - and their work are all now scattered around London city! They are in parks, toy stores, inside buildings, street corners....they are EVERYWHERE! To be more specific, locations includes Green Park, Hyde Park, St Jame's Park, King's Road, Queen's Walk, Picadilly Circus, Oxford Street, Hamley's Toy Store, Selfridge's, Trafalgar Square, Westminster, Marble Arch, Chelsea Royal Hospital, the Natural History Museum, even as far out as Greenwich and Brixton!! Its so exciting! So why not download a map and a full list of all the elephants on display?
But lets all come down to the most important part of this parade, it is more than just a manifesta of elephants...as much as everyone is concern, we've come to a state where our world might come to another round of ice age and we might need to rebuild Noah's Ark! I'm serious! We as human beings are starting to be so selfish we forget with whom we share this planet with...so please stop destroying these beautiful habitats to these animals. It is all – because of logging, agriculture, industry and human settlement. Elephants try to follow their traditional migration corridors, or to find food, but they might encounter roads, fields and villages in the way. This can lead to conflict with local people, which could be fatal for both sides.
Funds raised by Elephant Parade will go towards working with local people and governments to help secure more land that can be used as corridors by the elephants. So do your part to safe the elephants! Hey, its a fun project to!! See if you can take a picture of yourself with all 250 elephants!!! =) This is my first with Radja! See how cute we both look together? Haha.
